The Nutcracker Is a Classic Ballet for a Reason – See Why Next Saturday Night!

Set in 1920s Paris, the birthplace of classical ballet, Marcello Angelini’s vision of The Nutcracker has been a Tulsa favorite since 2003. Whether you’ve seen it once or one hundred times, this magical holiday spectacular is guaranteed to capture your imagination. Join us this year on Saturday, December 7th as the Tulsa Performing Arts Center.

The story of The Nutcracker is loosely based on the E.T.A. Hoffmann fantasy story The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, about a girl who befriends a nutcracker that comes to life on Christmas Eve and wages a battle against the evil Mouse King. Hoffmann’s story is darker and more troubling than the version that reached the stage; the Imperial Russian Ballet choreographer Marius Petipa chose to follow a light adaptation of the story.

Tchaikovsky's story of a young girl and her journey to a magical land on Christmas Eve is perhaps not only the composer's most famous work but also one of the most famous ballets of all time. The Nutcracker is often performed during the Christmas season due to its content, and many families make it an annual tradition to attend a performance.
